Floor Varnish Aqua Matt 1L Herdins
Description
Herdins Floor varnish Matt is a modern, high-performance 1-component varnish specially developed to protect and refine wood and parquet floors indoors. By combining a water-based formula with modern polymer technology, the varnish provides a hard, resistant surface against everyday stress - such as scratches, stains, pet claws and spills - while highlighting the floor's natural grain and structure. With a sober matt finish (approx. 30 gloss) you avoid reflections and shine, and instead get a modern, timeless floor that feels smooth and comfortable underfoot. The unique formula does not yellow over time, making it particularly suitable for light wood types such as pine, spruce, ash and oak.
Suitable substrates and areas of use
Herdins Floor Varnish is optimized for indoor environments with medium to high load:
- Wood and parquet floors: New or sanded plank floors, strip parquet and laminate parquet.
- Renovation & maintenance: Surfaces that have previously been varnished (after thorough cleaning and light intermediate sanding).
- Pigmented floors: Excellent as a protective top coat on top of surfaces stained with Herdins Oil Stain.
Step-by-step guide: How to varnish the floor for best results
Preparation & Environment
- Temperature: Ensure that both the varnish and the room are between 14–28 °C (optimally around 20 °C).
- Ventilation: Ensure good air exchange during both application and drying, but avoid strong drafts that can bring dust with them.
- Test painting: Always do a test coat on a hidden area to check adhesion and final gloss result.
Preparation based on floor type
Option 1: Clean and freshly sanded wood floors
- Sanding: Sand the wood in the direction of the grain with sandpaper/sandpaper grit 120.
- Cleaning: Vacuum thoroughly and wipe the surface with a microfibre cloth to ensure that the floor is 100% dust-free.
- Mixing: Shake or stir the paint carefully so that the filler is evenly distributed. Let the can rest for a few minutes so that any air bubbles have time to rise to the surface.
Application: Apply 2–3 thin coats. Let dry for at least 2 hours between each coat.
Intermediate sanding: Sand lightly with fine sandpaper (grit 180–240) between coats to remove fiber buildup and give a silky smooth finish. Vacuum thoroughly before the final coat.
- Finishing: Apply the last layer in a flowing manner in the lengthwise direction of the wood for an even and non-mirror film.
- Option 2: Previously varnished surfaces (Revarnishing)
- Cleaning: Remove all dirt, grease, polish and remnants of Bonwax with paint cleaner or floor cleaner.
- Adhesion test: Test on a small area to make sure that the old varnish does not lift or peel.
- Matting: Sand the surface lightly and evenly with 120 grit sandpaper for good mechanical anchoring.
- Application: Apply 1–2 layers of Herdins Golvlack. Tip: When revarnishing, thorough curing may take slightly longer – avoid heavy wear for the first 3–4 weeks.
Care instructions after varnishing
- First day (0–24 h): The floor must not be walked on until it is dust-dry. After 24 hours, the floor can withstand light foot traffic in socks.
- The first 4 days: Avoid heavy furniture, carpets and damp mopping while the varnish builds up its full chemical resistance.
- Ongoing maintenance: Vacuum or dry mop regularly. When wet mopping, use a well-wrung cloth with a mild, pH-neutral floor cleaner. Always wipe up spills immediately.
