Herdins Hardwax Oil Pigmented 207 Smoked Oak (275 ml) is the perfect choice for caring for, coloring and providing long-lasting protection for wooden surfaces indoors that are exposed to heavy wear. The oil is based on natural vegetable oils, waxes and pigments that provide deep nourishment, highlight the natural grain of the wood and give a beautiful matte finish.

Works excellently on both brand new and recently sanded wood. The surface must be completely free of residues of old varnishes, lacquers, wax and detergents.

Instructions & Work steps

Pre-treatment

• For optimal adhesion and an even result, the surface should be sanded clean.
• Start with a coarser sandpaper and finish with grain size 120.
• Always sand in the direction of the wood grain.
• Vacuum and thoroughly wipe away all sanding dust before application.

Application

• Make sure the hard wax oil is at room temperature. Stir the can very thoroughly from the bottom before and during work.
• Apply the oil in two thin layers.
• Use a brush, Herdins Stain Applicator or scouring pad to work the oil evenly into the wood in the direction of the grain.
• NOTE! Wipe off any excess oil immediately with a lint-free cloth. It is very important that no excess oil is left on the surface.
• Let the first layer dry for 10 hours before applying the next layer.
• Apply the second layer in the same way and let dry for 12 hours.
• The surface can be carefully loaded after 3 days and is fully cured after 12 days.

Finishing & Polishing

• The finished surface can be polished with a soft polishing cloth.
• If a slightly shinier surface is desired, it can be polished with white scouring nylon.

Care & Maintenance

• For daily/routine cleaning and maintenance of the surface, use lukewarm water and Herdins Linseed Oil Soap.
• When the surface starts to look worn, dry or rough after prolonged use: sand lightly with fine sandpaper, remove the sanding dust and apply a new thin layer of hard wax oil.

Important to consider when using

• Same batch number: If you have purchased several cans of the same color, it is important to check that they have the same batch number. Always mix the contents of all cans together in a common container before starting work to avoid differences in shade and ensure a homogeneous color tone.
• Adjust color strength: If you want a weaker coloration, you can mix the pigmented hard wax oil with an uncolored variant. Mix all the oil you intend to use together before application and iron 2 times with this mixture.
• Never finish with uncolored: Never apply an uncolored hard wax oil as a top layer on top of a pigmented hard wax oil.
• FIRE RISK (Spontaneous ignition): The product contains drying oils. There is therefore a risk of spontaneous ignition in soaked rags, tangles, steel wool, etc. All used rags and tools must be placed in water in a tightly closed metal container or burned immediately after use.

Cleaning, Handling & Environment

• Cleaning tools: Wipe off as much remaining oil as possible from brushes and utensils. Then clean the tools first with white spirit, and then wash thoroughly with soap and warm water.
• Storage & Handling: Store in tightly closed original packaging. Avoid direct spillage and contact with skin and eyes. Do not pour into drains.
• Waste management: Any remaining product should be handed in to the municipality's environmental station as paint waste. Empty, well-cleaned cans should be sorted as metal/sheet metal.
