Linseed Oil Soap 1L Herdins
Description
Herdins Linseed Oil Soap is a gentle, effective and biodegradable natural product made from saponified linseed oil and potash. The soap is free of solvents, perfumes and preservatives, making it an obvious choice for both the indoor environment and the garden. Unlike common all-purpose cleaners, linseed oil soap does not dry out the material. Its natural fat content cleans and re-greasing at the same time, which saturates the pores of the wood, prevents cracking and provides long-lasting protection against dirt and moisture. Over time, it gives untreated wood the classic, bright and silky patina that characterizes traditional scrubbed floors.
Features and benefits
- Dual function: Cleans effectively and builds up a dirt-repellent protection in a single step.
- Environmentally friendly & natural: Contains only water, linseed oil and potash - completely biodegradable.
- Versatile use: Equally effective on decking, balconies and outdoor furniture as on scrubbed floors, stone, brick and tiles.
- Beautiful aging: Helps untreated wood to naturally bleach to a beautiful, silver-gray shade without streaks.
Dosage and consumption
- Daily cleaning (floors & surfaces): 1 dl per 10 L lukewarm water. Wipe up excess, do not let puddles dry.
- Basic treatment / Scrubbed floors: 5–8 dl per 8–10 L cold water. Always wet the wood before application.
- Treatment of patios & decking: 5–8 dl per 10 L cold water. Scrub in the lengthwise direction of the wood.
- Spot cleaning / Stain removal: Concentrated soap with cold or lukewarm water. Always pre-wet the wood before application.
Soap scrubbing wooden floors indoors (Classic scrubbing floor)
- Soap scrubbing is a proven method for creating durable, smooth and beautiful wooden floors in spruce or pine.
- Prepare the surface: Sand new or heavily worn floors with sandpaper (grit size 120) to open the wood fibers. Vacuum thoroughly to remove all sanding dust.
- Pre-wet with cold water: Wet the floor thoroughly with clean, cold water. Important: Hot water draws out the wood's natural resins and can make the floor dark or yellow, while dry wood absorbs concentrated soap unevenly and causes stains.
- Mix the soap mixture: Mix 5–8 dl Herdins Linseed Oil Soap with 10 liters of cold water.
- Scrub the planks: Use a heavy-duty brush and scrub 2–3 planks at a time in the direction of the fibers.
- Wipe off the excess: Wipe up dirty soapy water immediately with a damp cloth or mop before it has time to dry.
Build up the layer:
- Newly laid/sanded floor: Repeat the treatment 4–5 times with drying time in between to saturate the wood properly.
- Maintenance: Soap the floor 1–2 times per year or as needed.
Cleaning and soaping outdoor decks and decking
Soaping is a non-toxic and pleasant alternative to traditional wood oil. It prevents stains and gives the deck a light, soft and silver-gray surface.
Annual cleaning:
- Sweep away loose debris, leaves and sand.
- Rinse the surface with water.
- Mix 1 dl of soap with 10 liters of water and scrub with a decking brush to remove dirt and algae.
- Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose (avoid high-pressure washing at close range as the fibres may be torn).
Basic treatment for weather protection:
- Clean the decking thoroughly and allow to dry, or start from a dry, clean patio on a cloudy day.
- Water the boards with cold water so that the wood is thoroughly soaked.
- Mix a strong soap solution of 5–8 dl Herdins Linoleum Soap to 10 litres of cold water.
- Scrub the soap into each board along the grain of the wood.
- Wipe up any excess. Do not let puddles dry in direct sunlight as this can leave shiny, dark spots.
