Spoon Knife 164 Right Leather Guard Morakniv
Description
Morakniv Spoon Knife 164 is one of the market's most appreciated craft and spoon knives among both beginners and experienced wood carvers. This right-handed model is specially developed to provide optimal control and precision when creating concave shapes - regardless of whether you are carving a classic breakfast spoon, a sturdy cup for the outdoor trip or a beautiful wooden bowl.
Sharp edge with tighter curvature
Model 164 is characterized by a tighter curvature compared to, for example, Morakniv 162 and 163. The tighter radius makes it easy for the knife to reach deeper grooves and provides maximum precision when working with details. The edge has optimized edge angles that allow the blade to glide smoothly and with minimal effort over the wood fibers, which minimizes the risk of chips and unevenness.
Safer and more comfortable carving
The blade is single-edged, which means that the back (knife spine) is not sharp. This is a great ergonomic advantage: you can comfortably and safely place your thumb or fingers on the back of the blade to push and dose the force exactly where it is needed. The handle is made of classic, oiled Swedish birch – shaped to lie firmly and comfortably in the hand even during long hours of crafting.
Durable blade & locally made leather cover
The 2.0 mm thick blade is made of carefully selected stainless steel that stays sharp for a long time, is resistant to moisture and requires minimal maintenance. The knife comes with an exclusive edge cover made of vegetable tanned leather from local cowhides. The cover protects both the edge from becoming dull when the knife is in the toolbox and your hands when you pack it in your backpack.
Tips for use & care
- Cleaning: Always wipe the blade after use. Although the steel is stainless, the wooden handle does best when stored dry.
- Handle maintenance: Oil the birch handle with a little boiled linseed oil when necessary to preserve its luster and prevent drying out.
- Sharpening: Keep the edge sharp with a round whetstone or leather trowel with polishing paste inside and outside the curve for a mirror-like cut.
