Chinese Wood Oil Pigmented Grey 1L Herdins
Description
Give your outdoor wooden surfaces first-class protection and a modern, stylish silver-gray luster. Herdins Chinese Wood Oil Pigmented Grey (1L) is a high-quality wood oil with a full 49% dry content, based on linseed oil and Chinese tung oil (Tung Tree Oil). A full 85% of the oil content consists of pure tung oil, whose extremely small molecules penetrate deeper into the pores of the wood than traditional wood oils. The result is a superior water-repellent barrier that effectively prevents drying out, cracking and mold growth under harsh Nordic weather conditions.
Benefits of Herdins Chinese Wood Oil Grey
- Superior penetration: Based on at least 85% tung oil that saturates the wood in depth without forming a flaky film on the surface.
- Extremely water-repellent: Creates a hydrophobic surface where water beads and runs off.
- Effective protection: Reduces the risk of moisture absorption, cracks, graying and microbial growth/mold.
- Beautiful gray glaze: The pigmented gray formula gives the wood an even, weathered and modern tone while highlighting the wood's natural grain.
- Versatile use: Suitable for impregnated wood, untreated wood, pressure-impregnated decking and hard hardwoods such as teak and mahogany.
- No finishing required: The surface is fully treated and protected immediately after application.
Suitable areas of use & substrates
This pigmented wood oil is developed for all wooden surfaces outdoors:
- Balconies, wooden decks and decking
- Garden furniture and benches
- Fences, trellises and windbreaks
- Facade panels and exterior joinery
- Precious wood (for example teak, oak and mahogany on outdoor furniture or boat parts)
Step-by-step: How to apply Herdins Chinese Wood Oil
Preparation & Weather conditions
- Surface: The wood must be clean, dry and free of grease, dirt and old loose paint/varnish. Wash with decking cleaner if necessary and let dry thoroughly (moisture content below 16%).
- Weather: Best results are achieved at temperatures between +15 °C and +25 °C.
- Avoid direct sunlight: Never oil in strong sunlight or on surfaces that are hot from the sun, as the oil can dry too quickly before it has time to penetrate.
- Protection from precipitation: The surface should be protected from rain for the first 48 hours.
Application
- Stir thoroughly: Stir thoroughly from the bottom before starting and continue stirring regularly during the work. The pigments sink quickly to the bottom, and continuous stirring ensures an even gray color over the entire surface.
- Saturate the wood: Spread the oil liberally with a brush or facade brush along the grain of the wood until the surface is completely saturated.
- Wipe away excess: Let the oil soak in for a few minutes. Then wipe away any excess oil thoroughly with a lint-free cloth. The oil should penetrate the wood, not form a shiny film on top.
- Maintenance: When the surface starts to look dull, dry or worn over time, it is time to wash it clean and apply a new protective layer.
Safety, Health and Environment
- Important – Risk of spontaneous combustion: Rags, torn rags or paper soaked in oil may spontaneously ignite. Always soak used rags in water immediately after use, store in an airtight metal container or burn under controlled conditions.
- Health: Avoid skin contact and inhalation of vapors/mist. Repeated contact may cause dry skin or cracking. Contains dichlorooctylisothiazolinone which may cause an allergic reaction.
- First aid: If swallowed, do not induce vomiting; contact a doctor or Poison Information Centre immediately and show the container/label. Keep out of reach of children.
- Waste disposal: Liquid oil residues and contaminated containers must not be poured into the drain but must be handed in to the nearest municipal recycling centre/environmental station.
