NIBE ICP 10 DC Anode
Description
NIBE ICP 10 is an advanced DC anode designed to provide reliable, maintenance-free and long-lasting corrosion protection in enameled water heaters and heat pump accumulators. Through its innovative design with a titanium electrode, the system replaces traditional sacrificial anodes, which reduces the need for regular anode replacements and ensures continuous protection for the steel walls of the water tank.
How NIBE ICP 10 Works
The system works through an active voltage converter combined with a wear-free titanium anode that is connected via cable. When the system is powered, an adapted protective current is conducted from the titanium anode (positive pole) to the inner walls of the tank. Any invisible pores or minor damage in the enamel acts as a cathode (negative pole).
When the current is conducted through the water, the electrochemical surface potential at the enamel damage is lowered to a level where the corrosion process of the steel wall practically stops. Depending on the hardness of the water and local water quality, a protective limescale deposit can also form over damaged surfaces, which is further strengthened by the system's function.
Smart Interruption Potentiostat Function
NIBE ICP 10 uses a so-called interruption potentiostat. This means that the protective current is regularly interrupted at very short intervals:
- Measurement: During the short interruption, the actual potential difference (actual voltage) between the titanium anode and the inside of the water heater is measured.
- Comparison: The value is transferred to the voltage converter and compared with the preset setpoint voltage.
- Adjustment: The protective current is automatically fine-tuned so that the heater always receives exactly the right corrosion protection adapted to the prevailing water conditions.
Advantages of Titanium Electrode and Direct Current
- Maintenance-free protection: Since the titanium anode is not consumed in the same way as classic magnesium anodes, virtually wear-free protection is obtained over a long period of time.
- Active potential regulation: Continuously adapts the power supply to changes in water quality and temperature.
- Safe operation: Reduces the risk of leakage and extends the overall service life of the heating system or water heater.
