This is a modern, environmentally friendly and Nordic Ecolabel approved mud paint that is carefully boiled according to Swedish craftsmanship tradition with carefully selected linseed oil, flour, iron vitriol and pure iron oxide pigments extracted from recycled steel. The result is a vibrant, deep red color that ages with dignity and preserves the genuine appearance of traditional wooden buildings.

Unlike mud paints based on traditional earth pigments, Falu Vapen is completely free from lead and other harmful heavy metals, making it safe to work with and gentle on nature. The paint is completely matt and diffusion-open, which means that it forms a natural protective layer that allows the wood to breathe and effectively releases moisture from the inside without trapping rot. This minimizes the risk of moisture damage and cracking over time.

The paint is specially developed for new painting on unplaned or finely sawn wood and for repainting facades that have previously been treated with traditional red paint. It is the obvious choice for barns, cottages, residential buildings and outbuildings with eaves where you want to combine a classic Swedish cultural heritage with modern requirements for the environment, health and long-term weather protection.

Painting instructions

Always paint in thin layers and apply wet-on-wet to avoid overlapping marks. Avoid spot-touching up individual nail heads as the facade can look flamboyant.

New painting on unplaned wood:

• Primer: Dilute the paint with approx. 10% clean water and apply a thin coat.
• Finishing: Paint a second coat of undiluted paint after the primer has dried.

Repainting on previous mud paint:

• Preparation: Wash and treat the facade against mold/algae if necessary.
• Cleaning: Wire brush the facade thoroughly until you reach a solid and clean surface. Sweep away all loose pigment and wood fiber.
• Painting: Apply a full-coverage coat of undiluted paint.
