Description

Herdins Hardwax Oil Pigmented 207 Smoked Oak provides a deeply penetrating, durable protection that both colors and cares for wooden surfaces indoors in one step. The oil creates a matte, water- and dirt-repellent surface especially adapted for surfaces with heavy wear, such as parquet floors, countertops, furniture and wood panels. The formula is based on natural vegetable oils and waxes that highlight the natural grain of the wood and provide long-lasting luster.

Instructions for use & Application

Pre-treatment

• Sand the surface completely clean for optimal adhesion. The surface should be completely free of detergent residue, wax, varnish or previous varnish.
• Start with a coarse sandpaper and finish with grain size 120.
• Always sand in the direction of the wood grain.
• Carefully remove all sanding dust before applying.

Application

• Ensure that the hard wax oil is at room temperature. Stir the can well before use.
• Apply the oil thinly in two layers with a brush, Herdins Staining Applicator or scouring pad. Work the oil thoroughly in the direction of the wood grain.
• NOTE! Wipe off any excess oil immediately with a cloth. It is absolutely essential that no excess oil is left on the surface.
• Let dry for 10 hours before applying the second thin layer.
• Let the second layer dry for at least 12 hours.
• The surface can withstand light load after 3 days and reaches full wear resistance and hardening after 12 days.

Finishing & Maintenance

• Polishing: For a shinier finish, the finished surface can be polished with a white scouring pad or polishing cloth.
• Regular cleaning: The surface is maintained and washed with lukewarm water mixed with Herdins Linseed Oil Soap.
• Maintenance during wear: When the surface feels dry, rough or worn over time, sand it lightly with fine sandpaper. Wipe off the sanding dust and apply a new, thin layer of Hard Wax Oil.

Important to consider

• Batch number: When using several cans of the same color, check that they have the same batch number. Always mix the cans together in a larger container before starting the application to avoid differences in shade.
• Adjust color intensity: If a lighter or less prominent color is desired, mix the pigmented hard wax oil with Herdin's uncolored hard wax oil. Mix together the entire amount to be used and apply in 2 layers. Never finish a treatment with uncolored hard wax oil on top of pigmented hard wax oil.
• Self-ignition hazard: The product contains drying vegetable oils. Rags, tangles, steel wool and other porous materials soaked in oil can self-ignite. Immediately soak used rags/tools in water or burn them in a controlled manner.

Cleaning, Handling & Waste

• Cleaning tools: Wipe off as much remaining oil as possible from the tools. First wash with white spirit and then rinse thoroughly with soap and water.
• Handling and storage: Store in tightly closed original packaging. Avoid spillage and contact with skin and eyes. Do not pour into drains.
• Waste management: Residues of the oil are handed in to the local environmental station as paint waste. Well emptied and cleaned tin cans are sorted as metal packaging (tin).
