Kitchen Countertop Oil Plus 500ml Herdins
Description
Give your wooden surfaces in the kitchen the protection they deserve with Herdins Kitchen Countertop Oil Plus. This special oil is specially developed to care for and preserve wooden details in kitchen environments where the demands on cleanliness and durability are extra high. The oil has an exceptionally good penetration ability that saturates the wood fibers in depth, prevents drying out and prevents cracking.
Unlike traditional oils, Kitchen Countertop Oil Plus provides a durable, matt barrier that repels both water and everyday dirt without compromising safety. Thanks to the product being approved for contact with food and certified according to SS-EN 71-3, it is the obvious choice for both solid kitchen worktops and dining tables as well as for wooden cutting boards and serving utensils.
The difference between Herdins Kitchen Countertop Oil and Kitchen Countertop Oil Plus
Both Herdins Kitchen Countertop Oil and Kitchen Countertop Oil Plus share the same basic task: to care for, seal and enhance the beauty of wooden surfaces in the kitchen.
The crucial difference lies in the certification:
- Kitchen Countertop Oil Plus is food safe, tested and officially approved for direct contact with food and free from heavy metals. This makes the PLUS variant much more versatile, as it can be safely applied to surfaces where food is prepared directly on the wood (e.g. cutting boards, wooden bowls and wooden cutlery).
- Classic Kitchen Countertop Oil is primarily intended for general countertops and tables where food is not prepared directly on the wooden surface.
Step-by-step: How to apply Kitchen Countertop Oil Plus
To achieve the best possible durability and a smooth finish, the following procedure is recommended:
Pre-treatment
- Check that the surface is completely clean, dry and free of grease, wax and dirt.
- Lightly sand previously oiled or wood-cleaned surfaces with sandpaper (grit size 120) along the grain of the wood. This opens up the pores of the wood, removes old oil and facilitates deep penetration.
- Wipe off all sanding dust thoroughly with a microfibre cloth.
Application
- Shake or stir the can well before use. Ensure good ventilation.
- Apply the oil in an even and thin layer using a lint-free cloth, brush or scouring pad.
- Work the oil in and distribute from saturated to more absorbent areas. Add additional oil if necessary so that the entire wooden surface is evenly saturated.
- Important: Wipe off any excess oil thoroughly with a clean cloth after 15–20 minutes. If excess oil is left behind, sticky or unevenly shiny spots may form.
- In the case of highly absorbent or untreated wood, the treatment can be repeated after the first drying.
Drying time & Finishing
- Drying time: Let the oil cure for approximately 24 hours. Do not expose the surface to water or moisture during the curing time.
- Post-polishing: When the surface has cured for 24 hours, polish with a white scouring pad (e.g. the white, non-scratch side of a household sponge). This compacts the surface layer and gives a silky, durable and beautiful finish.
Ongoing maintenance
- Maintain the worktop 2–3 times a year, or as soon as the wood starts to look dull and dry or absorbs water.
- For everyday cleaning: Use a damp cloth with lukewarm water and possibly a little mild soap. Avoid strong alkaline or acidic cleaning agents that break down the oil film.
Important Safety Information & Handling
- Warning for spontaneous combustion: The product contains drying vegetable oils. Rags, rags and sponges soaked in the oil can spontaneously ignite. Always soak used rags in water after use or store them in a fireproof, airtight metal container before disposal.
- Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation during application and drying, as low aromatic white spirit evaporates during the process. Avoid inhalation of vapors and prolonged skin and eye contact.
- Storage: Keep out of reach of children, cool and tightly closed. Protect from strong heat and direct sunlight.
- Recycling: Well emptied and cleaned cans are sorted as metal/sheet metal. Liquid oil residues are left at the nearest municipal waste station as hazardous waste.
