Floor Lacquer Aqua Matt 3L Gloss 30 Herdins
Description
Give your wood and parquet floors superior protection against everyday wear and tear without losing the wood's natural luster. Herdins Floor Lacquer Aqua Matt is a modern, water-based 1-component floor lacquer developed for indoor environments with high wear. With a discreet matt gloss (approx. 30 gloss units), the lacquer highlights the wood's natural grain while creating a durable barrier against dirt, stains, water splashes and mechanical wear. The formula is essentially odorless, quick-drying and developed not to yellow over time – which guarantees that the floor retains its bright, fresh tone year after year.
Key benefits
- Extremely durable: Perfect for heavily trafficked areas such as kitchens, hallways and living rooms.
- Does not yellow: Preserves the wood's original shade and works excellently over light wood types and surfaces treated with Herdins Oil Stain.
- Fast and easy working process: Can be painted over after only about 2 hours.
- Gentle indoor environment: Water-borne formula with minimal odor and pH value 8.
- Requires no finishing: Complete protection immediately after application and curing.
Areas of use & Suitable substrates
Herdins Floor Varnish Aqua Matt is developed for use on all types of wood and parquet floors indoors in the home. It works optimally on:
- Wood, freshly sanded wooden floors (pine, spruce, oak, ash, etc.)
- Previously varnished surfaces that have been dulled
- Floors pre-treated with Herdins Oil Stain for staining before protective varnish
How to succeed: Step-by-step guide
Preparation and safety
- Climate: Check that both the room, the substrate and the varnish maintain a temperature between 14–28 °C (preferably 20 °C). Ensure good air exchange.
- Safety equipment: Use gloves and safety glasses. Cover moldings and adjacent surfaces to avoid splashes.
- Test varnishing: Always do a test on a smaller, hidden area to verify adhesion and final appearance.
Pre-treatment based on floor type
Wooden floors:
- Sand the surface with fine sandpaper (grit size 120) along the grain of the wood to open the pores.
- Vacuum thoroughly and wipe with a damp microfiber cloth so that the surface is completely clean and free of sanding dust.
- Shake or stir the paint can well and let it rest for a few minutes so that any microbubbles disappear.
- Apply 2–3 thin coats. Let dry at least 2 hours between each coat.
- Sand lightly with fine paper (grit size 180) before the last coat for a silky smooth result. Vacuum away the dust.
Previously painted floors:
- Remove old polish, wax, grease and dirt with painter's wash.
- Sand the surface lightly with grain size 120 to roughen up the old paint and create good adhesion.
- Vacuum clean.
- Apply 1–2 thin coats. (Note that the curing time is slightly extended when overpainting old paint - avoid heavy use for the first 4 weeks).
Application technique
Apply the varnish evenly with a short-haired roller, varnish brush or varnish spatula. Work in the lengthwise direction of the wood, a few boards at a time. Apply the last layer slightly more fluidly for an even flow and a smooth finish without streaks.
Finishing, Curing & Care
- Furniture & Load: Walk carefully on the floor in the sock boots after 24 hours. Lighter furniture can be put back after 1 day (use furniture feet). Wait at least 4 days before putting carpets on or moving heavy furniture in.
- Everyday cleaning: Vacuum regularly. When wet-wiping, use a well-wrung microfibre cloth and a mild, pH-neutral cleaning agent. Avoid strong alkaline agents or steam cleaning. Always wipe up spilled liquid immediately.
- Cleaning of tools: Rinse brushes and rollers thoroughly in lukewarm water immediately after finishing work before the paint dries.
Storage & Environmental Considerations
- Storage: Store dry, cool and guaranteed frost-free, out of reach of children.
- Source sorting: Never pour leftover paint down the drain. Liquid paint residues are left at the nearest municipal recycling center as hazardous waste/paint waste. Well-emptied and dry plastic containers are sorted as hard plastic.
