Hard Wax Oil Uncolored Matt 500ml Herdins
Description
Herdins Hard Wax Oil Uncolored Matt (500 ml) is the obvious choice when you want to give wooden surfaces indoors an invisible but exceptionally durable protection. Whether you are treating a freshly sanded parquet floor, a solid wood countertop or a dining table, the hard wax oil combines the deep-acting nutrition of the oil with the protective surface layer of the wax. The result is a velvety, matte surface that resists spills, water, grease and everyday wear and tear, while preserving the natural feel and structure of the wood. Since the oil does not form a dense varnish film, the wood can continue to breathe, which minimizes the risk of cracking and peeling over time.
Suitable areas of use
Herdins Hard Wax Oil is suitable for clean and freshly sanded wood surfaces indoors:
- Wood and parquet floors in hallways, living rooms and bedrooms
- Solid wood countertops and kitchen islands
- Furniture, table tops and chairs
- Wood panels, moldings and thresholds
Step-by-step: How to apply Herdins Hard Wax Oil
Preparation (The basis for a successful result)
- The surface must be completely clean, dry and free of residues of old varnish, varnish, wax or cleaning agents.
- Sand the surface smooth. Start with a coarser paper and finish with grain size 120. Always sand along the grain of the wood.
- Vacuum and wipe away all sanding dust thoroughly before application.
Application
- Make sure the oil is at room temperature (approx. 18–22 °C) and stir the can thoroughly before and during work.
- Layer 1: Apply a thin layer with a brush, Snappy or white scouring pad. Work the oil evenly in the direction of the wood grain.
- Wipe off excess immediately: Wipe off excess oil immediately with a clean, lint-free cotton cloth. Important: No oil must be left as a wet film on the surface.
- Let dry for at least 10 hours.
- Layer 2: Apply a second thin layer in the same way and wipe off the excess. Let dry for 12 hours.
- Tip for extra shine: For a slightly shinier and even smoother feel, the surface can be polished with a white scouring pad or polishing cloth when dry.
Curing & Load
- The surface can withstand light load after 3 days (please walk in socks on the floor and avoid heavy objects).
- Full wear resistance and chemical resistance is achieved after 12 days. Avoid laying carpets or wet wiping the surface during this curing period.
Care and maintenance
- Daily cleaning: Dry mop or vacuum. If damp wiping is required, use lukewarm water and gentle Herdins Linseed Oil Soap. Avoid strong alkaline cleaning agents or dishwashing detergents as they will dry out the wax layer.
- Maintenance treatment: When the wood starts to look dry or feel rough after a period of use, sand lightly with fine sandpaper (grain 180–240), remove dust and apply a new thin layer of hard wax oil.
Important safety information & tips
- Risk of spontaneous combustion: The product contains drying oils. Rags, sponges and steel wool that have been used can spontaneously ignite! Place used rags in water in a closed tin can or burn them under controlled conditions immediately after use.
- Mix cans for larger surfaces: If you buy multiple cans, pour them together in a common container before application to ensure a completely uniform shine and shade.
- Combination with pigmentation: If you want to tone down a pigmented hard wax oil, you can mix it with this uncolored variant before application. Note: Never put an uncolored hard wax oil on top of an already hardened pigmented hard wax oil.
- Environment & Waste: Never pour oil down the drain. Leave leftovers at the recycling center as hazardous waste / paint waste. Empty and cleaned tin cans are sorted as metal packaging.
