Genuine Stain Powder 51 Red Herdins
Description
Herdins Äkta Bets Red 51 is the obvious choice for those who strive for the absolute highest quality, maximum transparency and a deep, vibrant color result. Since Äkta Bets is delivered in powder form and is completely free of binders, the character of the wood is not hidden - instead, the wood's natural grain and structure are highlighted in an unparalleled way. The powder dissolves easily in boiling water and gives a clean, clear red tone.
Advantages of Herdins Äkta Bets Red
Unlike ready-made stains, Herdins Äkta Bets contains no binder. Binder is the substance that sticks the dyes to the wooden surface and which in some cases can make the surface cloudy. Because the stain is free of binders, the pure dye penetrates deep into the wood fibers without masking the substrate. The result is a clear, deep red color where the wood's natural pattern and structure appear with exceptional luster.
- Full control over shade and intensity: The strength of the stain is easily adjusted by the amount of water you dissolve the powder in (¼ – 1 liter depending on the desired saturation), or the number of coats.
- Mixable with 24 colors: All 24 shades in the Äkta Bets series can be mixed with each other, making it easy to break out the exact red wood tone you are looking for.
- Possibility of alcohol staining: Can also be mixed with alcohol for difficult-to-stain surfaces where water solution does not provide sufficient coloring.
Step-by-step: Work description & Tips
Preparation of the substrate
- The stain requires a completely clean substrate (new or sanded wood free from old varnish, oil or paint residues).
- Reduce fiber raising: Wipe the surface with a little clean water and let it dry. Then sand lightly with fine sandpaper before staining.
- Even absorption: Light and soft areas (as well as end wood) absorb more stain than hard areas. A light wiping with water just before application reduces the risk of color shifts.
- Resin-rich woods: On oily woods such as pine, you can add a drop of washing-up liquid to the water for better wetting.
- Any filling: Choose a filler that matches the chosen red shade and carefully sand away all excess filler around the repair.
Preparation & Mixing
- Dissolve the contents of the bag while stirring in ¼ – 1 liter of boiling water (use a stainless steel container, glass or plastic – not tin).
- Allow the solution to cool completely before applying to the wood.
- Tip: Mix enough stain solution for the entire job right away to ensure a completely even color tone.
Application
- Always do a test stain on a scrap piece of the same wood type or on a hidden surface. The original base color of the wood always affects the final result.
- Apply the stain liberally in the direction of the wood grain.
- Immediately smooth out excess stain with a damp brush or wrung-out sponge. Use a brush for smaller details and a lint-free cloth/sponge for larger areas.
- Work flat whenever possible. If you have to stain a vertical surface, work from the bottom up to avoid run-off marks.
- Don't forget to stain tongue, groove and edges of panel wood before assembly.
Important
- Finishing with Clear Varnish. Since Äkta stain has no binder, the surface must always be finished with Herdins Clear Varnish.
- Do not use water-based clear varnish. Water-based varnishes dissolve the dye again, which causes the surface to smear, become flaky or have an unwanted color change. Use a solvent-based clear varnish.
