Genuine Stain Powder 84 Dark Antique Oak Herdins
Description
Herdins Genuine Stain in the shade Dark Antique Oak is a classic water-soluble dye in powder form. Since the stain is completely free of binders, the pigment penetrates deep into the wood with exceptional transparency and highlights the natural grain without covering the surface structure. Dissolve the powder in boiling water and easily adjust the color strength to your liking for renovating furniture, panels and joinery.
- Pure color without binders: Maximum transparency and deep luster in the wood structure.
- Adjustable shade strength: Easily adjust the tone via the amount of water or number of coats.
- Versatile color: Can be mixed with all 24 other colors in the Äkta Bets series.
- Possibility of alcohol staining: Can be mixed with alcohol for more difficult types of wood where pure water solution does not adhere sufficiently.
Step-by-step: How to stain with Äkta Bets
Pre-treatment
- Sand the wooden surface carefully so that it is completely free of varnish and paint residues.
- Water-brush the surface with a sponge or cloth so that the fibers stand up. Let dry and sand lightly with fine sandpaper.
- For resinous types of wood (such as pine or pine), add a drop of dishwashing liquid to the water for more even absorption.
- When filling holes: use color-matched putty and sand away all excess around the damage.
Mixing
- Dissolve the contents of the bag while stirring in ¼ to 1 liter of boiling water, depending on the depth of color desired.
- Let the solution cool completely before you start working.
- Mix enough stain for the entire project immediately to prevent shade differences.
Application
- Always do a test stain on a scrap piece or hidden surface.
- Preferably place the wood flat. For vertical surfaces (e.g. standing panels), work from the bottom up to prevent run-off marks.
- Apply the stain liberally in the direction of the wood grain with a brush, sponge or cloth. Smooth out with a wrung-out sponge or wiped brush.
- Remember to stain tongue and groove if the wood is to be installed later.
Mandatory finishing
- Once the stain has dried (6–8 hours), the surface must be sealed with Herdins Clear Coat (solvent-based).
- Since the product has no binder, it will otherwise precipitate color.
- Important: Never use water-based clear coat, as water reactivates the stain dye and causes streaking and color changes.
