Genuine Stain Powder 62 Light Oak Herdins
Description
Herdins Genuine Stain in the shade Light Oak (62) is a classic water-soluble dye in powder form that gives the wood maximum color depth while emphasizing the grain and natural structure. Since the stain is completely free of binders, the pigments penetrate deep into the substrate with an outstanding transparency.
The powder dissolves in boiling water, which makes it easy to adjust the color strength to your liking by adjusting the amount of water or the number of coats. Perfect for furniture, panels, joinery and floors made of pure wood.
Features & Benefits
- Maximum transparency: Highlights the natural pattern of the wood without hiding the fibers.
- Adjustable shade: Easily regulate the color intensity by varying the amount of liquid.
- Free from binders: Penetrates deep into the wood for a professional end result.
- Mixable: Can be combined with the other 23 colors in the Äkta Bets series.
Instructions & Workflow
Pre-treatment and sanding
- The surface must be completely clean of dust, grease and previous paint residue.
- To prevent fiber raising: wipe the surface lightly with water before staining. Let dry and then carefully sand away the raised wood fibers with fine sandpaper.
- For oily or resinous wood types (e.g. pine): add a drop of dishwashing liquid to the water to break the surface tension and provide more even absorption.
- If holes need to be filled: use wood filler that matches the shade Light Oak and carefully sand away any excess around the repair.
Mixing and shade adjustment
- Add the powder while stirring continuously to ¼ to 1 liter of boiling water (depending on the desired color saturation).
- Allow the solution to cool completely to room temperature before applying.
- Always mix enough stain solution for the entire project at once to ensure a uniform shade over the entire surface.
- Alcohol stain: For wood species that are difficult to stain with water alone, dissolve the powder in 3/4 of the water and fill the last quarter with alcohol.
Application
- Always perform a test coat on a scrap piece of the same wood species to check the color strength.
- Lightly moisten the wood surface with water just before application to prevent soft areas and end wood from absorbing too much stain and turning dark.
- Apply the stain liberally in the direction of the wood grain. Then immediately smooth the surface with a wrung-out sponge or a wiped brush.
- On vertical surfaces (panels/doors): always smooth from the bottom up to prevent drip marks. Also smooth tongue and groove edges, as wood moves after installation.
Mandatory finishing
- Since Äkta Bets does not contain binders, the pigments precipitate upon contact with moisture and abrasion.
- After 6–8 hours of drying time, the surface must be sealed with Herdins Clear Lacquer.
- Note: Never use water-based clear lacquer. Water-based lacquer reactivates and dissolves the dyes, which results in streaks and incorrect color tone.
