Herdins Genuine Stain Medium Brown Oak (color no. 83) is a classic water-soluble stain dye in powder form, especially developed for those who place the highest demands on the end result when surface treating wood. Unlike many ready-mixed alternatives, Äkta stain is completely free of binders, which gives the product its characteristic and unmatched transparency. This allows the pigments to penetrate deep into the wood fibers to create a vibrant, genuine depth of color while highlighting the natural grain and unique structure of the substrate to its full potential.

The powder-based formula also gives you full control over the shade; you can easily adjust the color strength by the amount of water you dissolve the powder in, or by mixing it with other colors from the range. Workflow: Step-by-step guide

Preparation

• Make sure the surface is clean, well sanded and free of grease, dirt and old varnish.
• Reduce fiber raising by moistening the wood lightly with water (add a drop of washing-up liquid for greasy/resinous wood types such as pine). Sand lightly when the surface is completely dry.
• Always do a test coat on a hidden surface or scrap piece of the same wood type to verify the color.

Mixing

• Dissolve the powder while stirring in 0.25–1 liter of boiling water (depending on the desired intensity and packaging instructions).
• Let the stain solution cool completely before application. Mix enough stain for the entire project at once to avoid differences in shade.

Application

• Apply the stain liberally in the direction of the wood grain with a sponge, cloth or brush. Work from the bottom up on vertical surfaces to avoid drip marks.
• Smooth out the liquid gradually with a wiped brush or wrung out sponge.

Finishing (Important)

• After 6–8 hours of drying time, the surface must be sealed with Herdins Clear Varnish.
• Note: Do not use water-based varnish, as it dissolves the dye and causes blotching or color change.
