Genuine Stain Powder 72 Mahogany Brown Herdins
Description
Herdins Äkta Bets Mahoganybrown 72 is a water-soluble dye in powder form, developed for untreated or sanded wood. Since the stain is completely free of binders, it penetrates deep into the wood fibers without hiding the substrate. The result is a clear, intense coloration with high transparency that highlights the wood's natural grain and structure.
The color strength is easily adjusted by the amount of water added when mixing or the number of coats. The colors in the Äkta Bets series can also be mixed with each other.
Benefits of Herdins Äkta Bets
- Emphasizes the wood grain: Penetrates deeply into the wood fibers without binders and provides maximum transparency.
- Intense color depth: Creates a vibrant, classic surface without covering the substrate.
- Adjustable color strength: Easily diluted with water to achieve the desired shade and saturation.
- Mixable shades: Can be combined freely with other colors in the series for unique results.
- Flexible use: Can be stained with alcohol for better penetration on more difficult wood types.
- Long shelf life: The powder form provides easy storage and a long shelf life.
- Easy-care tools: Brushes and utensils are easily cleaned with plain water.
Instructions for use: Step by step
Pre-treatment
- Sand the surface thoroughly so that it is completely free of paint residue, grease and dirt.
- Lightly water the surface to raise the wood fibers. Let dry and then sand lightly with fine sandpaper.
- For oily or resinous woods (such as pine), add a drop of dishwashing liquid to the water before ironing for more even absorption.
Mixing
- Stir the powder into ¼–1 liter of boiling water, depending on the desired color intensity.
- Mix enough stain solution for the entire project at the same time to ensure a uniform shade.
- Tip: When staining with alcohol, first dissolve the powder in ¾ parts hot water and then add ¼ alcohol (t-red).
Application
- Always do a test stain on a scrap piece of the same wood or a hidden surface.
- Apply liberally in the direction of the grain with a brush, sponge or lint-free cloth.
- Smooth the surface immediately with a wiped brush or wrung-out sponge.
- Preferably work on horizontal surfaces. When working vertically (e.g. wall panels), always iron from the bottom up to prevent drip marks.
Finishing
- The surface must be sealed with Herdins Clear Varnish (not water-based) when the stain has dried (at least 6–8 hours).
- Important: Never use water-based varnish, as water dissolves the dye and causes blotchiness and color precipitation.
