Genuine Stain Powder 59 Ebony Black Herdins
Description
Herdins Genuine Stain Ebony Black is a classic, water-soluble stain dye in powder form that gives wooden surfaces a deep and intense result. Since the product is completely free of binders, you get exceptional transparency that highlights the wood's natural grain and structure without hiding the surface.
Perfect for furniture, joinery, panels and moldings made of new or sanded wood where you place the highest demands on luster and color tone.
Advantages of Herdins Äkta Bets
- Maximum color depth: The lack of binders allows the dye to penetrate deep into the wood fibers.
- Adjustable shade: Control the color strength through the amount of water you dissolve the powder in or the number of coats.
- Miscible: Can be mixed freely with the other 23 colors in the Herdins Äkta Bets series.
- Possibility of alcohol staining: Can be mixed with technical alcohol (3/4 water, 1/4 alcohol) for wood types that require deeper penetration.
Instructions for use: How to succeed with the stain
Pre-treatment
- Make sure the surface is clean, dry and completely free of old varnish, oil or dirt.
- To prevent fiber raising: lightly brush the surface with water, let dry and sand carefully in between.
- If you are going to fill knot holes or damage, use a filler that matches the selected stain shade and sand off the excess carefully.
Preparation
- Dissolve the powder while stirring thoroughly in ¼ to 1 liter of boiling water (depending on the desired shade).
- Allow the solution to cool completely before applying.
- Mix enough stain for the entire project at once to ensure an even shade.
Application
- Always do a test stain on a scrap piece of the same wood type or a hidden surface.
- Preferably work on horizontal surfaces. If you have to work vertically, apply the stain from the bottom up to avoid runny marks.
- Apply generously in the direction of the grain and smooth directly with a wiped brush or wrung out sponge.
Mandatory finishing
- Since Äkta Bets lacks binders, it will stain if not sealed.
- Allow to dry for 6–8 hours and always finish with solvent-borne clear varnish (Herdins Klarlack).
- Note: Never use water-based varnish, as the water reactivates the colour pigments and gives a flaming surface with subsequent discolouration.
