Description

Herdins Oil Stain Antikvit is a user-friendly, ready-to-use stain solution consisting of pigmented oil and aliphatic white spirit. It provides a soft, tactile wood feel and strong basic protection while providing more even staining than traditional water- or varnish-based stains. With its long open time, the Oil Stain is excellent for larger wooden surfaces both indoors and outdoors.

The product is soft, flexible, extremely rich and is available in a total of 11 different shades. Damaged surfaces are also very easy to repair – just lightly sand the damaged area and apply new oil stain.

Pre-treatment for best results

A perfect end result requires a well-sanded and clean surface free from dirt and defects.

• New wood: Sand in the direction of the grain with 120-grit sandpaper.
• Varnished surfaces: Sand completely clean before application.
• Previously oiled surfaces: Sand lightly.
• When using paint remover (stripper): Clean the surface thoroughly of all residues with soap solution or alkaline detergent and rinse thoroughly with water. Let dry and sand away any raised fibers.
• Repair defects: Fill any holes in the wood if necessary.

Step-by-step application

• Stirring: Always stir the bottom of the can thoroughly with a stirring stick until the product is completely mixed. Simply shaking the can is not enough.
• Application: Work the oil stain in with a cloth, brush or cellulose sponge.
• Wiping: Wipe away the excess in the direction of the wood grain. Leave to dry for 12 hours at room temperature.
• Darker tone (optional): When the surface is completely dry, you can lightly matt it with fine sandpaper, brush off the sanding dust and apply a second coat.

Tips for working

• The wood should preferably lie flat during work.
• For vertical objects: Start from the bottom and work your way up.
• When staining ceiling or wall panels: Preferably stain the panel before installation. Remember to iron the tongue/edge as wood can move afterwards.

Finishing

Let the oil stain harden for at least 24 hours before you start finishing.

• Indoors (Normal wear): Finish with Herdins Kitchen Countertop Oil, Herdins Beeswax or Herdins Wax Oil.
• Indoors (Normal to heavy wear): Treat with Herdins Hard Wax Oil, Herdins Clear Lacquer, Herdins Clear Lacquer Aqua or Herdins Floor Lacquer.
• Outdoors: Finish with Herdins Chinese Wood Oil, Herdins Teak Oil or Herdins Wood Oil.

Maintenance & Cleaning

• Maintenance: Oil-stained surfaces and surfaces treated with Wax Oil require regular maintenance. When the surface feels dry and rough, it should be re-treated with one of the recommended products for finishing.
• Tool cleaning: Wipe brushes and tools thoroughly. Then clean in brush cleaner or white spirit.

Important to consider (Safety & Tips)

• Spontaneous ignition risk: The product contains drying oils. There is a high risk of spontaneous ignition in soaked rags, tangles, steel wool, etc. Used rags and materials must be placed in water or set on fire immediately after use.
• Shade differences: If you use several cans of the same color, we recommend that you mix them together in a container before starting work.
• Yellowing: White oil stain and Antikvit may yellow slightly over time due to the influence of the substrate and the natural color change of the oil components.
• NOTE regarding wooden floors: We do not recommend the color Antikvit for floors, as the surface may yellow if combined with finishing products such as Floor varnish. Instead, choose other adapted floor products from the Herdins range.

Waste management & Environment

Empty tin cans should be handed in to the local environmental station for recycling. Liquid oil stain residues and washing liquid constitute flammable waste and must not be poured down the drain, but should be handed in to the environmental station.
