Description

Herdins Oil Stain Dark Oak (275 ml) is a ready-to-use stain solution consisting of pigmented oils and aliphatic white spirit. It provides even coloring, good basic protection and a soft, tactile and satin wood feel. The product is ideal for both large and small surfaces of new or sanded wood indoors and outdoors - such as untreated furniture, joinery, panels, moldings, ceilings and floors.

Compared to water- or varnish-based alternatives (such as Herdins Äkta bets or Lackbets), Oil Stain has a longer open time. This makes it extremely user-friendly, soft and flexible to work with, especially on larger surfaces. In addition, the surface is easy to repair: just sand the damaged area and apply new oil stain.

Step-by-step: How to use Herdins Oil Stain

Pre-treatment

• A perfect result requires that the surface is well-sanded and completely clean of dirt and defects.
• New wood: Sand in the direction of the grain with 120-grit sandpaper or similar.
• Lacquered surfaces: Sand completely clean.
• Previously oiled surfaces: Sand lightly.
• If paint remover (stripper) is used: Clean the surface thoroughly of all residues with soapy water or alkaline detergent. Rinse thoroughly with water, let dry and sand away any raised fibers. Fill any holes in the wood.

Application

• Important about stirring: Always stir the bottom of the can thoroughly with a stirring stick until the product is completely mixed. Simply shaking the can is not enough.
• Tools: Work the oil stain in with a cloth, brush or cellulose sponge. Then wipe away the excess in the direction of the wood grain.
• Working technique: The wood should preferably lie flat. For vertical objects, start from the bottom and work your way up. When staining ceiling or wall panels, it is best to stain the boards before they are put in place (also smooth the tongue/edge as the wood moves).
• Multiple coats: Let dry for 12 hours. For a darker stain tone, lightly matt the surface with fine sandpaper, brush off the sanding dust and apply a second coat.

Finishing (Let the stain cure for at least 24 hours)

• Indoors (Normal wear): Finish with Herdins Kitchen Countertop Oil, Herdins Beeswax or Herdins Wax Oil.
• Indoors (Normal to heavy wear): Treat with Herdins Hard Wax Oil, Herdins Clear Coat, Herdins Clear Coat Aqua or Herdins Floor Coat.
• Outdoors: Finish with Herdins Chinese Wood Oil, Herdins Teak Oil or Herdins Wood Oil.

Maintenance & Cleaning

• Maintenance: Oil-stained and wax-oiled surfaces require continuous maintenance. When the surface starts to feel dry and rough, re-treat it with a suitable finishing product according to the list above.
• Cleaning of tools: Wipe brushes and utensils thoroughly. Then clean in brush wash or white spirit.

Important points to note & Safety

NOTE! Risk of spontaneous combustion: The product contains drying oils. There is a high risk of spontaneous combustion in soaked rags, tangles, steel wool, etc. Used rags and materials must be immediately placed in water or set on fire.

• Mixing several cans: If you are going to use several cans of the same color, it is recommended to mix them together in a container before starting work to ensure a completely even shade.
• Information about white colors: White oil stain can turn yellow over time due to the influence of the substrate and the natural color change of the oil components.
• Floor treatment & Antikvit: If you are going to treat a wooden floor, the color Antikvit is not recommended in combination with a finishing treatment (e.g. Floor varnish) as the surface may turn yellow slightly. In that case, choose other suitable floor products from the Herdins range.

Waste management

Close opened cans tightly. Empty tin cans are taken to the local environmental station for recycling. Liquid oil stain residues and cleaning fluid constitute flammable waste - must not be poured down the drain but must be taken to an environmental station.
