Description

Herdins Oil Stain Teak (275 ml) is a ready-made, soft and flexible stain solution of pigmented oil that colors and cares for the wood in one step. The stain provides an even and natural color with a pleasant, satin-matt surface and a tactile wood feel. It has a longer open time than varnish-based stains, which makes it ideal and easy to work with even on larger surfaces. The wooden surface gets good basic protection and is easy to repair if damage occurs — just sand the damaged area and apply new oil stain.

Suitable for coloring both large and small areas of new or cleanly sanded wood indoors and outdoors. Perfect for untreated furniture, joinery, panels, moldings, ceilings and floors.

Step-by-step instructions

Pre-treatment

• The surface must be well sanded and clean of dirt and defects.
• Sanding of new wood is done in the direction of the grain with 120-grit sandpaper for an optimal substrate.
• Varnished surfaces are sanded completely clean of wood. Previously oiled surfaces are lightly sanded.
• When using paint remover (stripper): Clean the surface thoroughly with soap solution or alkaline detergent and rinse thoroughly with water. Let dry and sand away any raised fibers.
• Fill any holes in the wood if necessary.

Application

• Stirring: Stir thoroughly at the bottom of the can with a stirring stick until the product is completely mixed. Simply shaking the can is not enough.
• Working method: Preferably lay the wood flat. When working on vertical objects, start from the bottom and work upwards. When staining ceiling or wall panels, it is recommended to stain before installation — remember to iron the tongue/edge as wood moves.
• Apply: Work in the oil stain with a cloth, brush or cellulose sponge.
• Wipe off: Wipe away any excess in the direction of the wood grain.
• Additional coats: Let dry for 12 hours. For a darker stain tone, lightly sand the surface with fine sandpaper, brush off the dust and apply another coat.

Finishing (Let the stain cure for at least 24 hours first)

• Indoors (normal wear): Herdins Kitchen Countertop Oil, Herdins Beeswax or Herdins Wax Oil.
• Indoors (normal to heavy wear): Herdins Hard Wax Oil, Herdins Clear Lacquer, Herdins Clear Lacquer Aqua or Herdins Floor Lacquer.
• Outdoors: Herdins Chinese Wood Oil, Herdins Teak Oil or Herdins Wood Oil.

Maintenance

Oil-stained surfaces and surfaces finished with Wax Oil require maintenance. When the surface starts to feel dry and rough, treat it again with a suitable finishing product.

Cleaning tools

Wipe brushes and utensils thoroughly. Then clean in brush cleaner or mineral spirits.

Important Tips & Safety Instructions

• Mixing cans: If you use several cans of the same color, mix them together before use for a completely even color result.
• Risk of spontaneous combustion: The product contains drying oils. There is a high risk of spontaneous combustion in soaked rags, lint and steel wool. Always place used rags/materials in water or set them on fire immediately after use.
• Information about light colors: White oil stain can turn yellow over time due to the influence of the substrate and the natural color change of the oil components. When treating floors, the color Antikvit is not recommended (especially in combination with, for example, Floor Lacquer) as the surface may turn yellow — choose other suitable floor products instead.
• Storage: Reseal opened cans tightly.
• Waste management: Leave empty cans at local environmental station for recycling. Liquid stain is classified as flammable waste and must not be poured down the drain.
