Lacquer Stain Aqua 622 Teak 275ml Herdins
Description
Herdins Lacquer Stain Aqua (Teak) is a ready-to-use, water-based stain solution containing binders and micro pigments, designed for bare or previously treated indoor wood surfaces. The formula combines staining and varnishing into one step, delivering beautiful color, an even finish, and good basic protection for the wood.
Thanks to a longer open time compared to traditional stains, Aqua Stain & Varnish is exceptionally easy to work with, making it an excellent choice even for the novice DIYer. The product is more resistant to sunlight than other stains, making it ideal for furniture and woodwork in sun-exposed areas. The range is available in 10 different colors.
Note: Aqua Stain & Varnish has slightly lower transparency than "Äkta Bets" (Authentic Stain) or traditional stain/varnish products, and slightly lower adhesion to previously varnished surfaces compared to solvent-based stain/varnish products.
Benefits of Herdins Lacquer Stain Aqua
- Stain and varnish in a single step: Colors and provides basic protection simultaneously, saving both time and effort compared to separate systems.
- Easy application with long open time: The extended open time reduces the risk of lap marks and blotchiness caused by rapid drying, making it easy for even inexperienced users to achieve an even, professional result. Superior lightfastness: Thanks to micro pigments, the surface is significantly less affected by sunlight than with traditional stains, preventing the wood from fading over time in sunny environments.
- Water-based, gentler formula: Free from harsh solvents, resulting in minimal odor during application, a healthier indoor environment, and easy tool cleanup using only water and dish soap.
- Versatile use: Adheres well to both bare wood and previously treated surfaces.
- Upgradable wear protection: For high-wear surfaces (such as tables or stairs), the finish can easily be top-coated with Herdins Klarlack Aqua (Clear Varnish) or Golvlack (Floor Varnish) without compatibility issues.
Instructions and application steps
Pre-treatment
- Always perform a test stain on the same type of wood to check the shade before starting the full project.
- Sand the wood surface in the direction of the grain using 120-grit sandpaper or equivalent.
- Previously treated surfaces must be sanded and, if necessary, washed with sugar soap (rinse off the sugar soap very thoroughly afterwards).
- If using multiple cans of the same color, mix them together in a single container before application to ensure a perfectly uniform shade.
Application
- Stir the stain thoroughly before use.
- Apply the stain generously and spread it in the direction of the wood grain.
- Quickly even out the surface using a damp (wrung-out) sponge or a clean, dry brush.
- If overlap marks appear: moisten the area with more stain and work the section with a white synthetic abrasive pad to even out the color. Always finish by smoothing the surface with a damp (wrung-out) sponge.
Finishing
- Buffing with a panel brush or a white abrasive pad creates a softer, more pleasant surface finish.
- If extra wear resistance is required, the surface can be top-coated with Herdins Klarlack Aqua (Clear Varnish) or Herdins Golvlack (Floor Varnish).
- NOTE: Applying a clear topcoat over Lackbets Aqua on oak will significantly darken the color. Therefore, always test on an inconspicuous area first.
Tool care, storage, and environment
- Cleaning: Wipe off as much excess stain as possible from brushes and tools. Then wash clean using ordinary water and dish soap.
- Handling & Storage: Store in a frost-free environment in the tightly sealed original container. Avoid spills and contact with skin and eyes.
- Waste disposal: Take leftover product to a local recycling center for water-based paint waste. Completely empty and cleaned metal cans should be sorted as metal waste.
