Lacquer Stain Aqua 618 Graphite Black 275ml Herdins
Description
Color and protect wood surfaces in one step with Herdins Lacquer Stain Aqua Graphite Black. This is a user-friendly, water-based, and more eco-friendly ready-to-use stain solution based on micro pigments and binders. The formula offers a longer open time than traditional stains, making it easy to work with and minimizing the risk of blotchy results—perfect even for inexperienced users. Aqua Varnish Stain withstands sunlight significantly better than traditional stains, making it ideal for surfaces exposed to direct daylight.
The product provides durable base protection with slightly lower transparency compared to Herdins Genuine Stain (Äkta Bets) or traditional varnish stains.
Benefits of Herdins Lacquer Stain Aqua
- 2-in-1 (Color & Protection): Colors and provides durable base protection in a single step.
- Easy to work with (Longer open time): Simple to even out without blotchy overlaps, even for inexperienced users.
- High light-fastness: Withstands sunlight significantly better than traditional stains and does not fade as easily.
- Water-based & gentle: Low odor, better indoor air quality, and easy cleanup with water and dish soap.
- Versatile application: Adheres to both bare wood and previously treated wood surfaces.
- Ready-mixed: Ready to use straight from the can—no complicated mixing required. Overcoatable: Can easily be reinforced with floor varnish or clear lacquer for superior durability.
Instructions & Procedure
Pre-treatment
- Always perform a test application on the same type of wood in an inconspicuous area to check the shade before starting the full project.
- Sand the wood in the direction of the grain using 120-grit sandpaper or equivalent.
- Previously treated surfaces must be thoroughly sanded and, if necessary, washed with sugar soap/TSP (rinse off all residue extremely carefully before application).
Application
- Stir the stain well from the bottom before use.
- If using multiple cans of the same color, mix them together in a single container before application to ensure a perfectly uniform shade.
- Apply the stain liberally in the direction of the wood grain.
- Quickly even out the surface using a damp (wrung-out) sponge or a brush with excess product removed.
- If overlap marks appear: Moisten the area with more stain and blend the transition using a white synthetic pad to even out the color. Finish by lightly wiping over with a damp (wrung-out) sponge.
Post-treatment
- Lightly brushing the surface with a panel brush or white synthetic pad creates a softer, more pleasant wood finish.
- For superior durability (e.g., tabletops or floors), the surface can be overcoated with Herdins Clear Lacquer Aqua or Herdins Floor Varnish.
- Note regarding oak: When overcoating "Lackbets Aqua" on oak, the color will darken significantly. Always test on an inconspicuous area first.
Cleaning, Handling & Storage
- Tool cleaning: Remove as much product as possible from brushes and sponges. Then clean immediately with lukewarm water and dish soap. Storage: Store in a frost-free environment in the tightly sealed original container. Avoid direct spills and contact with skin or eyes.
- Waste disposal: Take leftover product to a recycling center as water-based paint waste. Thoroughly emptied and dry containers should be sorted as metal.
Important considerations
- Lacquer Stain Aqua has slightly lower transparency than traditional spirit-based wood stain (Äkta Bets) and solvent-based varnish stains.
- When applied to previously varnished wood, the water-based formula has slightly lower adhesion than traditional varnish stains; thorough sanding is therefore essential.
